The blade in this grinder is elevated from the bottom of the grinding chamber, so during grinding the grounds compact under it which causes the blade and the pin holding it to become very hot. We returned it because of the overheating issue.

Grindes perfectly

I bought it to grind some coffee that I brought from Vietnam and it has a good blade you can stop grinding whenever you want to and get the consistency that you like. I grinded finely for a French press and it was very nice grinded.

Removable Bowl is the BEST

This little grinder is excellent for what it is - a low-precision, coffee bean and large spices grinder. My housemate had this coffee grinder and I ended up with it when they moved - we've had it for a few years now and it is still going strong. It has a bit of trouble grinding the lighter things (like dried flower petals or whole coriander) but works like a charm for coffee and heavier spices (like cloves). We do pour over and french press for our coffee so we don't need a very exact grind size. My all-time favorite feature, though, and what will keep me coming back for this exact model when our old one dies, is the removable grinding cup. It's hard to express how handy it is not to have to lift the entire machine and shake it to get out the coffee grinds every morning, and how much less I am cleaning up spilled grinds. It's a small thing, but for daily use it makes all the difference in the world. Love this little grinder!

Grinds Great!

Yes I said it it grinds great! But right from the begining the plastic base of the bean container began falling appart! We kept using it and it kept falling appart, and after two years the last piece fell off and it was rendered completely useless.. The metal grinding can is great, and the blade crushes more then it chops, which I think brings out more flavor.. though the crushing blades make it hard to grind small amounts of beans.. The motor is running great .. I wish I could recomend this product, but I can't Oh well :(

Purchased this Grinder to replace an old Grinder that I began to use again after purchasing a new coffee brewer that didn't have an internal grinding capability. This unit is very attractive. I appreciate the ability to remove the stainless steel grinding bowl from the unit to more easily transfer the ground coffee into the brewer and brush out the remaining grounds, while the rest of the unit remains clean.

I ran it for more than ten years and it was great!

When I first went looking to find a good coffee grinder I was disappointed as most were almost toy like. Then I found this KitchenAid in the basement of a Sears store. It was big as a Buick starter motor and looked like it would grind anything one put in it. I used it to grind coffee every day for over ten years and was deeply saddened when a minor part in the cup broke. I tried to repair it, but couldn't get it apart. So I bought a new one and it is a good day today!

I don't drink coffee, I got this to grind herbs and spices. It makes short work of pepper, mustard, etc. If you want the freshest flavor, you need one of these. Make just what you need for dinner or grind a week or two's worth of your most used spices.

I have had one of these grinders for coffee for years and finally got a second one just for spices. I have tried a couple of others, but they are just not as easy to use. They might cost a bit more, but they are worth it. You can see into the cup to grind to your desired amount. It's easy to clean and small when storing.

Beware the per cup markings

Just got a BCG1110B a few days ago. We replaced the coffee pot at the same time. It took me a few days to check the fill lines and compare them to what it says in the user manual. I found that the 12 cup mark is 18 tablespoons, not 14 as it says in the manual. In fact all of the lines are for a number of tablespoons equal to 1.5 x number of cups. (I checked with several measuring device) Also note that the 8 to 10 distance and 10 to 12 distance are both one cm so it is unlikely the volume differences would be 3 and 2 tbsp. Anyway, it is easy to adjust, and I like being able to pour the coffee into grinder rather than count coffee scoops. Just beware, and perhaps the user manual can be updated or the markings on the grinder corrected in the next redesign.

I suppose that you could use this to grind a fresh batch of coffee everyday, but this device's ability to grind hard herbs and spices is what I use it for. Everyone knows that herbs and spices last MUCH longer in a natural, unground state. This grinder is perfect for preparing a few weeks worth of FRESH flavor. I absolutely love it!

Fresh Coffee Just How You Like It

I received this as a Christmas gift this year and I love it! The best thing about this grinder is that you completely control the size of your ground coffee. With other coffee grinders I've used, you put a specific setting before putting in the beans and then if it's not perfect you can't re-grind. With the clear lid you can easily watch the grinding process and start and stop when it reaches your desired thickness. I personally prefer super fine grounds (Turkish coffee level which is finer than espresso) which typically isn't an option on most other grinders. With this grinder I just for an additional 10 seconds and it is perfect. Not to mention, coffee that was ground 5 minutes before you brew it is just delicious. This appliance grinds quickly and evenly :)

Stopped Working after Just Under Two Dozen Uses

Bought this grinder just after Thanksgiving in 2015. This unit has been used less than two dozen times to grind spices and coffee only. Today I went to grind coffee and the grinder does not work. The motor runs but the blade does not turn. Upon further inspection as to why the grinder is not working, I found that the cheap rubber material teeth that contact the METAL bar that fits between them to turn the blade to grind have worn off and will not maintain contact with the bar. If I could've rated this unit with zero stars I would have mImam quite disappointed that the unit, at this price point, only lasted a year and is just outside the manufacturers' warranty. Sadly Kitchenaid used to sell quality large and small appliances it appears from this experience that is no longer the case.

Great appliance, but...

Best grinder I've ever used. As a guy who really needs to measure any items relating to food, the cup tick marks on the bowl are much appreciated and have delivered accurate measurements to assure good coffee reliably. But... the plastic at the base of the steel bowl has broken twice now, for 2 different users (wife and I) with no rough handling. The first time I was able to superglue the piece back on and that worked fine. Today the plastic broke at an entirely different spot and into many pieces. I'll replace the part and keep using the grinder, but it's a disappointing weak spot apparently. Hence only 4 stars.

Great buy for the money!

Just used my new blade grinder this morning for the first time, and I'm happy that I purchased it! While this isn't a $400 burr grinder at all, I'm impressed for the price point! If you carefully watch what you're doing with it, you can actually get a good grind with it. Seems to have plenty of power with a full grinding cup, but I've found that I get better consistency with about half of a load. I just had to experiment a little with it.

This grinder seems much more solid than a similar model by Cuisinart. However, after using for about four months the base of the grinder cup suddenly failed where the base clips into the motor housing. All of the clip inserts broke off the cup base meaning that only the lid was left holding the cup down onto the motor gear. Not sure if we will replace the unit or just go with a different brand.

I have had several different coffee grinders but I have to say I love this one the best, or at least I did until the base of the stainless coffee bowl lost a piece when I was attaching it. I have had this grinder for about 4 years. I love how fast it is, noise level is acceptable, and cleanup a breeze. However, when I went to attach the bowl to the base a piece of plastic that helps secure the bowl for grinding broke out. I would like to replace the bowl but can't find where to get one. Help!

Quit working after about 6 uses!

While I loved it when it was working, we've only used it maybe 6 times as a spice grinder when we're making sausages. It doesn't have build up of coffee like I saw some people say online that might prevent it from working. It hums, but the blade isn't turning (from the base) and I'm totally bummed that it quit working after so few uses AND I can't really find how to fix it online!
