plenty of space

We took delivery of this fridge 3 weeks ago as a replacement for our very reliable old Whirlpool top-freezer model, and so far we like this new one a lot. Our old one was still largely working but was starting to have some minor intermittent failures, and after 23 years of good service it didn't owe us anything. We searched for a replacement that was very similar, except with a bottom freezer, and this was the closest model we could find (same size and features). So far so good -- it's very spacious, the LED lighting is good and not too blue, and it seems to be keeping things cold as it should. I did measure the temp and it was a few degrees higher than recommended in both fridge and freezer, so I changed the settings to be slightly colder than the default.
As far as fridge design, it's overall very good. It doesn't have a butter compartment but we don't really miss that. The spill guard shelves are just as nice as our older model and very solidly built. The layout of the door shelves is great overall, and more flexible, although we lost a bit of door space -- the shelves are all half depth now except for the bottom one which fits gallon jugs. But that full depth shelf stretches the full width of the door, which is great! I really love the fact that the big milk and juice jugs are now within easy reach. And now we can store wine bottles upright in the door. My only complaint is the same as some other reviewers, that the produce drawers in the fridge are not as well designed as our older fridge, and much lighter weight. It's too easy to pull them completely out, so one day my produce end up all over the floor. Also it makes no sense to have humidity controls (which are unlabeled so you can't tell which way to adjust them) because there are sizeable gaps between the drawers and the shelf above. I can understand wanting to use lighter weight plastic these days, but in terms of design these drawers are definitely a step down from the older model.
The bottom freezer drawer is taking some getting used to but I'm sure I'll come around. The drawer configuration with baskets means you lose a bit of space and some items are harder to reach. We don't use the ice maker so I wanted to adjust the dividers which seemed impossible until I figured out that you can gently pry the brackets to get them to release (I used a table knife). It would have been nice if the instructions had explained this -- the instruction booklet isn't specific to this model and I couldn't find anything on line. But the baskets are pretty spacious and easy to slide, and the light is quite bright which makes it easier to see the contents.
Finally, it's not whisper quiet -- actually the motor/pump is about the same noise level as our old fridge. But it's not particularly noticeable either. And if this one turns out to be anywhere near as reliable as the old one, I'll continue to be a very happy Whirlpool customer!
